Quantifying sustainability using EPD and contributing to sustainable buildings using certified materials/products
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), also known as a Type III Environmental Declaration, is a voluntary certification according to ISO 14025:2011. EPDs are third-party verified declarations that communicate transparent and quantitative environmental data of a product based on life cycle assessments (ISO 14040/14044). For building products in Europe, EPDs are regulated by the EN 15804:2012+A2:2019 standard. The main goal of the project was to develop a cradle-to-gate EPD for natural and sandblasted slabs from Pietra Serena extracted in Firenzuola, Italy. The EPD of Pietra Serena has been recognised and published by the programme operator EPD Italy.
